Saris makes a fantastic product. The Bones 3EX is very well designed, engineered, and built. Efficient, stylish, sturdy, durable. It has enabled our 3-man bike crew to shred tons of local rides together, with tons of fuel saving and a much lower carbon footprint. And we've started taking week-long biking road trips from LA to Moab, Gooseberry Mesa, and Santa Cruz.
My only frustration is that the buckle straps on the top of the horizontal hatchback arms have left rubber marks / debris on our frames. I wrote to Saris when I first experienced this issue, and they sent me an upgrade arm kit with a newer rubber / plastic material. Better, but can still leave a mark over time.
After maybe 5 years of regular use with 3 full-suspension bikes, one of the straps finally broke. I wrote again to Saris to ask if I could simply replace the buckle straps. They said the straps are "machine pressed" into the arms and can't be replaced.
That's a silly design decision. The lower straps slide easily in and out, and can be replaced, but not the upper straps. This has resulted in me having a 3rd set of arms for this rack, and recycling two pairs of arms. All because the strap isn't replaceable.
Everything else is fantastic. Most people won't have these issues, I presume, or be frustrated there's not a 'right to repair' design, but I can't give it 5 stars for this reason.
