I have only had the SuperClamp G4 2 bike rack for about a week now so i will come back later and provide a more detailed review after i have used for an extended period. Starting out it seems to be a high quality rack that is doing exactly what i had expected. i wanted a solid rack that is easy to put bikes on and off and supports the bikes better than my prior hitch rack which is an older Thule 4 bike rack where the bikes hang.
i have carried my two bikes over some pretty rough roads and the rack seems to be solid and quiet. Planning to take a longer trip next month to another state and we will see how things go with that trip.
The wheel mount is much easier than the hanging mount and the bikes do not swing.
A couple of things that i noticed with the assembly of the rack that i wanted to mention.
First it is a very easy assembly process. The install video shows it well. Match label A with Label A and put in two fasteners and match label B with label B and put in two fasteners.
Second, what they do not show you in the video and you only see in the manual if you read it is that there is a torque spec on the bolts. I used the provided wrench to tighten down the fasteners with the provided allen wrench as shown in the video and pushed pretty hard on it and thought i had it pretty tight. However, once i got out my torque wrench and set the proper setting, needed to put approximately another full revolution on the bolts in order to reach the torque spec. I do not think that you would be able to get to the proper torque spec with the supplied allen wrench as it is too short.
One final thing, being very picky now is that i like to lock my bikes to the rack when traveling so if you stop to eat or something the bikes are secure. With this rack, you can lock the front wheel in the rack but if you have quick releases like most bikes, a thief can just release the front wheel and make off with the rest of the bike very quickly. Not very secure. i also did buy the SARIS cable lock which performs well also but at this point but my picky issue is that there is no loop or good place on the rack to lock the cable lock too to secure it. With my setup on the car, the hitch is for "racks only" and not for pulling a trailer so i do not have any place where the safety chains would connect to where i can lock the cable to. Therefore all i can do is loop the cable around the middle of the rack between the two bikes which is not as secure as i would like.
i did not take any points off my ranking for either of these two issues as the first is not a problem with the rack, just the provided allen wrench and the second is specific to my hitch setup. Overall it seems like a quality rack. we will see how it holds up over time.
