I was very disappointed with the Bones EX-2 that I purchased. I found the construction to be far inferior to an older Saris Bones rack that I have and can’t say enough good things about. The new version feels too cheap and “plasticky” and the strap and hook system, frankly, sucks. I found it difficult to get them tight enough. The old model has a real ratchet system that gives me confidence the rack is secure.
The worst part of this model, though, is that no matter how I configured the legs, the upper legs would not sit flush on the rear window. They kept pulling away and as I was driving I could see the feet moving loosely on their pivots. I did not feel confident that my bikes and the rack would even stay on the car for my 500 mile round trip.
And Saris, please don’t suggest I didn’t follow instructions or I should have called for assistance. I did my research, followed instructions and even referred to your own videos.
I really wish my old model would work on my current car. Saris really needs to go old school and stick with materials and mechanisms that work well.
