There weren't many options available for a single carrier bike rack that could hold the weight of my ebike (75lbs) and didn't break my budget (too much!). I researched every option available and settled on this one. I have a small vehicle (2013 Hyundai Elantra GT) and needed a hitch, which I had UHaul install. They also attached the Saris system for me.
I'm a fairly small woman, so I was concerned about having to lift the bike on to the rack. But I figured out a good system that works for me. The primary issue is that the base unit extends past the rack module, leaving a good 9 inches or so to pass over when trying the lift the bike on if starting from the center. The trick is to load the bike slightly left of center (if front tire is to the left), thus avoiding the part of the base that extends (to accommodate a second rack).
With one hand, I lift the front of the bike by holding the stem that connects to the tire. Then with the other hand, I lift the back. Then I guide the bike along the track until the front tire clears the tire stop.
Another trick I learned is to not fully drop the front wheel clamp when loading so that it remains in reach as I negotiate the bike along the rack. My bike has very fat tires (4"), which makes it difficult to align on the rack since the tire doesn't "sit" in the track. But after a few tries, I have a system down that's easy to replicate.
I also bought the ramp, but it takes much longer to load the bike and I have to guide it very carefully and slowly so it doesn't slip off the rack (again because of my large tires). I imagine it would be easier with thinner tires.
My only reason for 4 stars are these shortcomings. If the mount didn't stick out so far, I think it would make it easier for me to get closer to the rack and lift the bike in place with one go. and if the track was a bit wider to help guide the wider tires, that would also be helpful.
