Previously featured as a route from the Briançon side, this week’s ride allows you approach the pass from the other side. The actual climb to the summit starts in the ski resort commune of Valloire and is 18.1 km long. After a wall of 10% plus grade outside the village, the climb remains rather flat along the riverside Valloirette. Once you see the restaurant, Pan Lachat, come into the view – the real climb begins. It is the 9th highest paved road in the Alps, the 6th highest mountain pass and is often the highest point of the Tour de France. In 2015, this amazing climb will be featured as the 20th stage in the Tour de France.
